Abstract:  The Patriarchal Cathedral is one of the most important monuments that speak out loud about the past centuries of the Romanian people. Everything began in the second half of the XVII-th century when on the Romanian Countries throne came the Ruler Constantin Şerban Basarb, the son of the Ruler Radu Şerban (1602 - 1611). The edifice has greater dimensions than the one in Arges, the church being dedicated to saints Constantinos and Hellen, choice that can be explained by the name of the Country''s Ruler and the founding father of the monastery. The Orthodox Cathedral in Bucharest is divided between Altar and Nartex, both of them, pieces of a trinitary composition, prolonged by a characteristic Exonartex. From an architectural point of view, the plan is inspired by the one of the Lords'' Church. Once transformed into a Mitropoly, the Constantin Serban Ruler''s foundation passed through special building works. The first one is the transformation of the abation into a monastery palace. At the same time, with the contribution of the Ruler Gheorghe Duca (1673-1678), the construction work at the chapel continued. Because of the Ruler''s contribution, Saint George was chosen as a patron.
