Abstract:  The Mother of God in the Worship of the Orthodox Church and in the Orthodox Iconography. According to the teachings of the Orthodox faith, of all the saints the highest honor is offered to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. The Church calls her the "Empress" and "Madam" and confesses into its prayers that she is "more honorable than the Cherubim and the Seraphim”. The worship that the Church gives to the Virgin is called hyper-veneration, unlike that given to the saints, which is called simply worship. It goes without saying that the Blessed Virgin Mary is given such an honor, because she was able to be chosen by God to be the Mother of His Son, who took human body from her for our salvation. Therefore she occupies a privileged place in the salvation of humankind, being elected give birth to the Savior of the world.
