Abstract:  This article consists of three parts. The first one aims to establish whether the episode of Jesus’ birth is a free composition of the writer who has been trained within the Old-Testament prophecies, or whether the prophecies were added to a narrative already existent, be it written or oral. In the second part, I analyse the hypothesis of an existing common source from which both the Evangelist Matthew and Luke got inspired. The third part of this study, details the „midrash theory”, according to which the Evangelist Matthew had written the episode of Jesus’ birth having as origin certain texts from the Old Testament referring to Moise’s birth.
