Abstract:  After the fall of Constantinople in 1453, the Ecumenical Patriachat had to hold his activities under the new Ottoman regime. The freedom given to the Church under the Byzantine emperors was replaced by the hard constraints imposed to the Church by the Turkish government. Moreover, the Ottoman regime was often abusive and intolerant towards Christian subjects. However, despite all these injustices, the Church has survived in the new political context. Moreover, the Church relied on the growth of the Ottoman Empire to strengthen its links with other Orthodox Churches, fallen under Turkish rule.
