Abstract:   John Chrysostom’s view about the Scripture in the biblical approaches of Prof. Justin Moisescu. A critical assessment. In the Romanian biblical area, the work and the personality of St. John Chrysostom were analyzed less than in the patristic or homiletic fields where we can come across various pertinent approaches of the personality and the work of St. John Chrysostom which are treated from various points of view: homiletic, liturgical, rhetoric, dogmatic, moral, etc. In the Romanian orthodox biblical research, the one who was especially preoccupied by the work of St. John Chrysostom is Justin Moisescu, the former Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church (1977-1983). His main work in this regard is Sfânta Scriptură şi interpretarea ei în opera Sf. Ioan Hrisostom (The Holy Scripture and its Interpretation in the Work of St. John Chrysostom), Chernivtsi (Cernauti), 1942 and it represents a starting point in this area. In this book Justin Moisescu analyzes the exegetical work of St. John Chrysostom from the perspective of its authenticity and then some topics like the place of Scripture in the kerigmatic activity of St. John Chrysostom, his thoughts about the way in which the Scripture was inspired, the meanings of Scripture, etc. In order to have an overview on St. John Chrysostom’s thoughts regarding the Scripture and also on the way in which this very well known Romanian biblical Scholar understood this great exegete and the way in which he himself dealt with the issues already mentioned above, I have treated in this article some of these most important themes as following:
   a. The “sources” of the divine revelation according to St. John Chrysostom
b.The Inspiration - the supreme authority of the Holy Scripture
   c. Reading and interpreting the Scripture

Using quotations from St. John Chrysostom, Prof. Justin Moisescu demonstrates that the Holy Scripture contains the true teaching and the highest moral principles. However, in order for him to benefit from reading the Scripture, the Christian must identify the purpose of reading the words with that for which the books of the Bible were written. The permanent contact with the inspired Scriptures means the unconditioned access to the revelation and to the moral teachings.
