Abstract:  From the History of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Elites of the 19th Century: Canonical Augustin Lauran (1844-1912). Our article is about the figure of Augustin Lauran, clergyman with high studies in Rome, canonical of the Greek-Catholic bishopric council of Oradea, theologian and pamphleteer in the debates of the Romanian and Hungarian press of the last decades of the 19th century. He was born in Petea, in the county of Satu Mare, on December the 5th 1844 and he was one of the young who received a high education in Rome during the second half of the 19th century. In writing the biography of Lauran, we used the correspondence of the ex-student of the Greek College to the Chief of the Propaganda Fide Congregation. From these letters we can pick the main points. Augustin Lauran is an example of a passing time „forgotten” personage. Nevertheless, he deserves to be in the first place of the contemporary historiography. We try to do this intervention in this research.
