  Abstract:  The End of Metaphysics" and Nihilism as Sources of Philosophical Thought. Criticism of metaphysics – and we are referring stricto sensu to the Italian culture – conceived in a radical manner, paves the way to a new philosophical phenomenon that circulated after 1983 under the name of "weak thinking". Gianni Vattimo, an outstanding representative of this new philosophical phenomenon, developes his own thinking in an original way, through a constant dialogue with Nietzsche and Heidegger. Hermeneutics is the basis of this maturation. The theoretical consistency is provided by nihilism. This nihilism guarantees, on the one hand, the continuity between Nietzsche and Heidegger, and, on the other hand, the grounds of the ontology of decline. The subject of this study is exactly the deepening of the two issues mentioned above.
