Abstract:  Prayer in the Byzantine Tradition - an Answer to the Contemporary Secularization. Secularisation is a phenomenon, which, unfortunately, spared even into the Church, inside the clergy and the laymen. On long term, this phenomenon will destroy the Tradition of the Church. That is why I consider that only the return to the Tradition of the Church could be the mark of a progress, finding the uniformity, but most of all the unity of the liturgy. In this context, I considered it would be good to check out the way the first Christians prayed and how the Eastern Tradition evolved, looking at a special personality; I am talking about the saint Simon the New Theologian (949 – 1022). He wrote about prayer regarding to his own experience. Let us see the way he could practice the personal prayer and the prayer in community. Knowing the Tradition of the Church and applying these rules we could give a personal and communitarian answer to this phenomenon of secularisation.
