  Abstract:

Inter-Confessional Relationships in the Greek-Catholic Parish Drăgeşti. The Case of the Branch Bucuroaia (1850-1900). The delineation of the details regarding the inter-confessional relationships in the South-Eastern part of Bihor County, where the Greek Catholic communities were small islands in a sea of Orthodox communities, brings to surface myriad events, with different situations. For the second half of the 19th century, the Greek Catholic community from Drăgeşti, turning to Union during the non-absolutism years (1856-1857), had to confront itself not only with the resistance coming from the Orthodox priests and some turbulent believers from the area, but also with a precarious financial situation of the Parish, this being mainly the result of an area with a poorer development, from an economical point of view, with a small number of believers, that ever since 1886 had a low cultural level. So, the diversity of the situations reveals a Greek Catholic community that, during the first years, confronted itself with the establishment of its Greek Catholic identity, not few times marked by intercrossing with the members of the Orthodox confession. We speak of disunited mixed marriages, cases of fornication, the ministration of the sacraments and sacramentals (christening, marriages and burials) for the believers of the other confession, turning from one confession to the other and, last but not least, the case of the believers from the locality Bucuroaia that turned, as a group, to the Greek Catholic confession.

Keywords: interconfesional, Drăgeşti, Bucuroaia, orthodox, greek-catholic, confession.
