  Abstract:  Enea Silvio Piccolomini (1405-1464) became pope under the name of Pius II (1458-1464). He is famous in the field of literature due to his geographical, historical, and theological works, short stories and memoirs. The present study focuses on a geographical and historical work that has been recently edited by the German Publishing House Regionalkultur. The work assumes a topic with present interest, i.e. the problem of Europe within the context provided by the events from 1453 (the conquest of Constantinopole by the Ottoman Turks).
