Abstract:  The Romanian Greek-Catholic Church and the Bishop Iuliu Hirțea under the Communist Regime. The present paper is part of the series of documentary restitution of recent history, particularly focusing on the destiny of the Greek-Catholic Episcopacy of Oradea, taken on the 28th of July 1949 by the priest and professor Iuliu Hirțea. Amongst Romania’s most recent personalities, the name of the bishop Iuliu Hirțea has its well-deserved place due to his exemplary life that he has chosen to put into the service of the Greek-Catholic Church. Together with bishops Ioan Ploscaru (1911-1998), Ioan Chertes (1911-1992), Tit Liviu Chinezu (1904-1955), Ioan Dragomir (1905-1985) and Alexandru Todea (1912-2002), Iuliu Hirțea belongs to the second generation of martyr bishops called to serve the Greek-Catholic Church of Romania during the Communist regime.
