  Abstract:  

Cluj – the City that Could Reside the Greek-Catholic Archbishop 80 Years Ago. This study highlights a little known episode of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church`s past. The Concordat which the Romanian Kingdom signed in May 1927 with the Holy See, provided information regarding the transfer of the residence of Gherla Eparchy to Cluj, and the establishment of a new diocese in Maramureş. During the discussions about the new assignation of dioceses, floated the idea to transfer the metropolitan headquarters from Blaj to Cluj. This project was widely discussed in the third decade of the twentieth century, both in secular circles as well as ecclesiastical. The study presents a detailed debate regarding on this issue that took place in the autumn of 1929, among the Episcopal chorus. The position of each bishop was analyzed separately, arguments and the final decision that has been taken.
