Abstract:  The present essay discusses anti-discrimination legislation in Romania in the context of international law. It also compares the institutional framework created by this legislation with European institutions. The argument of the author is that although anti-discrimination legislation in Romania is in line with the norms of the European Union, discrimination is still omnipresent in Romanian public life. The essay ends with the discussion of the reasons for this situation, while it also sketches the possible solutions for increasing the efficiency of anti-discrimination policies.
