Abstract:  The article is debating the separation of powers in the Russian Constitution from 1993.In the first part we try to present and explain the political context in which the new constitution was adopted. The political context explains many features of the present Supreme Law in Russia. After that we are analyzing the main political and constitutional features of the new constitution, the executive, legislative and judicial powers of the Russian Federation, including the checks and balances provisions. In the end we concluded that Russia has a “superpresidential” system with a large French and American influence. It is interesting to observe that some unconstitutional French practice has been constitutionally insert in the Russian Constitution.
