  Article:   SOCIAL POLICY IN THE UNITED STATES: MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS AND CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES.

  Abstract:  The paper is an analysis of those aspects which are considered to be the most significant in the field of social policy in the United States. Major developments, starting with New Deal, are examined. The two elements of today’s system, namely social insurance and public assistance programs are described. The study is focused on two of the controversial issues of American social policy: welfare, and health care. The main conclusion is that American government is intermingling its activity with other actors in assuring the constantly innovative functioning of a pluralist system.
