  Article:   MASS INDEPENDENT ISOTOPE SEPARATION.

Authors:  ETIENNE ROTH.

Abstract:  After showing why "normal" isotope effects are expected to vary regularly with mass I will characterize mass independent effects. I shall then briefly review the discovery of variations in isotope abundances, in general, and particularly of mass independent ones. I will explain why they were discovered so late, and treat separately effects observed in nature and produced in the laboratory. Finally interpretations of mass independent isotope effects, uses in research and eventually for separations will be discussed.
