Abstract:
Where Did the Soul of the Enlightenment Go? This article tries to find in the Philosophy of Enlightenment a first and by nature unique occurrence of the contemporary thesis by Vincent Descombes, according to which mind is not a property internal or intrinsic of individuals. Mind exists only in its determinate cultural manifestations – for example, a book. The first occurrence of this thesis can be found in the work of Helvetius, which inherits the philosophies of Locke and Condillac, while it retains its own peculiarities. Keywords: mind, empiricism, materialism, Vincent Descombes
