The present paper analyses the complex conceptual relations between the self and the history, as they appear in La vie de Henry Brulard. The interpretation of this autobiographical work is oriented by the following questions: how does the historical experience articulate in the discourse? What kind of perception of historical facts is at work? In which way are the important historical events of the late 18th century and of the beginning of the 19th reflected in the autobiography?
