  Abstract:  Teaching Deep Down. Tyrannical Knowledge and Jealousy of Youth in The Lesson (E. Ionesco) and the Dying Animal (P. Roth). Cleverly concealed or clearly expressed, imaginary or real, eroticism is often mixed with teaching, as George Steiner emphasized in Lessons of the Masters (Maîtres et disciples, Gallimard, 2004). When he’s talking about literature, teacher is not only speaking to his audience’s intelligence, but also to his sensibility. Deliberate or accidental, attraction he generally exerts can become a nuisance, if many years separate master from disciple. In both books that we want to compare: The Dying Animal by P. Roth and The Lesson by E. Ionesco, Yeat’s poetry, on the one hand, and philology, on the other hand, only hide love. In this case, lessons are based on a mixing of desire and sadism, humiliation and release. And "the age’s mirror" drives to hypnosis, madness and finally murder.
