  Abstract:  En 1989, Lakoff et Turner posent les fondements de leur théorie de la métaphore poétique. Cet ouvrage fait suite à Metaphors We Live By (Lakoff et Johnson, 1980) et à Death is the Mother of Beauty. Mind, Metaphor, Criticism (Turner, 1987). Les trois volumes exposent sans ambiguïté une vision purement conceptuelle de la métaphore. En témoigne cet extrait de Turner (1987: 3): Rhetoric degenerated when it abandoned thought for style.
