  Abstract:
A Cross Analysis of the Composition/Decomposition of the Definitions in a Lexical Semantic Field. Our paper has as a starting point the research of Sylvianne Rémi-Giraud who selects the words peuple, nation, État, pays, patrie in a monolingual dictionary, Le Nouveau Petit Robert, 1993, and analyzes their definitions trying to answer an exciting question: do the words possess a minimal semantic program just as soon as they come to the world? To describe the lexical organization of the same semantic field in two different, but structurally related languages, we chose bilingual Romanian-French, French-Romanian dictionaries from the 19th century, which allowed us both to highlight the movement of semantic features and to seize their contiguities in diachrony.

Key words: distinctive feature, lexical semantic field, lexical definition, synonymic area.
