  Abstract:

Motivation in the Inuit Affixes. Eastern Greenland. Inuit language (Eskaleut family) is notoriously polysynthetic both at the level of the proposition and in its highly motivated lexicon. Many lexical entries can be easily segmented, and a single root can be the base for a variety of lexical units with quite divergent denotations. Furthermore, in tunumiisut (Eastern Greenland), the hypothesis of a motivation in phonemics is provided within the stock of affixes.

Keywords: Motivation, semantics, verbalizing affixes, inuit language, Greenland.
