Phrases, Units, Series, Compound Words ... Approaches of the Genevan School of General Linguistics (Ch. Bally, A. Sechehaye, H. Frei). In this article we aim to examine the approaches regarding the word combinations advanced by the linguists of the "first" Genevan School. Between 1920-1930, this issue has been subject of investigation in their research, which proposed solutions convergent with more recent ones, but which, however, remained tributary to the englobing conceptual framework and to the research objectives of each type of approach. Our purpose is to identify the peculiarities of the Genevan theories of Linguistics, somewhere between the Saussurean inspiration and other diverse and original projects.

Keywords: phraseology, composition, phrases, compound words, general linguistics, Geneva.
