Abstract: Postmodern Voices and Discourses (An Unconventional Analysis of the Narrative Journey of the Self). This article debates multiple perspectives on the postmodern narrative voice, having as a starting point a story written by ex-neurologist Oliver Sacks. It claims that there is a strong dialectics between dysfunction and creativity, even when the two are only subtly manifesting themselves in an attempt to organize experience by means of a narrative. After briefly analyzing the issue at the crossroads of linguistics, philosophy, anthropology and psychology, the article concludes that the act of transgressing conventional discourse limits has a tremendous artistic and hermeneutic potential. Keywords: discourse, postmodern, Sacks, narrative, voice, identity, subjectivity |
