Abstract:  This paper is concerned with the orthophony in the Scandinavian languages. The theoretician of the orthophony was the Dane Rasmus Rask, but Danish is today one of the least orthophonic languages in Europe. The Norwegian Knud Knudsen succeded to apply Rask’s views on the Dano-Norwegian Bokmål, actually on the Norwegianized Danish. There will be examined how (far) the orthophony principle could assert itself in the Scandinavian languages, especially in Norwegian.

Key Words: orthophony, orthophony principle, spelling reform, spoken and written language, pronunciation, hard consonants
