Abstract:  The Name of the Rose under the Badge of the Book. Written to satisfy everybody’s taste, thus addressing to various levels of culture, Eco’s novel The Name of the rose is symbolically as well as symptomatically placed under the badge of the Book. Its characters-monks who live by and for the books, the quest and finding of a main book of human’s culture, the presumtive second part of Aristotel’s Poetics (wich would develop the dangerous theory of knowledge through laugh risen to Art’s value) points each step of narrative evolution. A conspicuous illustration of Eco’s aesthetic theories, this remarcable novel aims successfully to become a convincing invitation to knowledge, reading and meditation.
