Abstract:  Access to conference interpreting is now almost entirely through University-based training courses, usually at Masters level. Numerous courses have been set up to train students in the specific skills demanded by the profession. Recruiting Organisations have played varying roles in training in the past. After providing in-house programmes, they withdrew to a large extent from training. However, over the last few years, confronted with concerns about succession and also possible mismatches between general training and their specific needs, their involvement has increased. The reasons and modalities of this trend are examined.

Key words: conference interpreter training, recruiting organisations, history of interpreting, EMCI.
