  Abstract:  The TV Debate or the Political Crisis. Today’s political debate is not what it used to be, claim disappointed political journalists and experts. We are confronted with a so-called “decline” of the genre, apprehended either as a mere reflection of the current political crisis, or as an “adaptation” to new television, the Neo-television. Starting from this idea, the article identifies in the political discourse of TV debates traces of the transformation that affected the entire sphere of politics. Based on the examination of several French political debates, this study emphasizes: (a) the “flaws” of the new type of political discourse, as well as the impact that the emergence of new media had on it; (b) the effects of the mixing of two domains that should have remained apart: the private and the public, politics and show business; (c) the “peopolisation” phenomenon.
