Abstract:  The history of the National Bank of Romania had blended with the whole history of our country and its role in the development of the Romanian economy and society along time has been essential and has been manifest in several areas. There is hardly an aspect of the economic and social life on which does not bear the mark of the foremost institution of the country. Even if it had to face hard times, even if its functions of National Bank of the Romanian State have at times been adulterated, the “Old Lady” of the Romanian society, as the National Bank of Romania is endearingly named, has managed to survive and to remain the most prestigious banking institution of our country.
