Abstract:  Nowadays costumers buying on-line can use many alternative electronic payment schemes. The classic way which requires consumers send their credit card number to the merchant is yet the riskyest and the most expensive option. Therefore it is more and more rejected and new innovative payment instruments are beeing developed. Electronic money (e-cash) seem to be the future’s top payment method because of its quickness, cheapeness and convenience properties. Such payment tools are already available for the e-cosumers (e.g. DigiCash and CyberCash). Additional payment systems, based on electronic wallets, allow consumers download electronic money from e-banks and save it directly into their e-wallet or on their hard disks. One example is the CAFÉ system developed by the European Community which today is fully functional. CAFE is continued by the OPERA project. Since 66 % of global payments are still runing in the classic cash method, a boom in the e-payments field is there to arise.
