  Abstract:  Between September 22nd−24th, 2011, the International Conference RecentDevelopments in Functional Analysis and Approximation Theory washeld at Lecce, Italy. It was organized in collaboration by members of theUniversities of Salento, Bari and Basilicata being devoted to some significantaspects of contemporary mathematical research on Functional Analysis,Operator Theory and Approximation Theory including the applicationsof these fields in other areas such as partial differential equations, integralequations and numerical analysis. Behind this scientific activity there was anemotional manifestation namely the celebration of Francesco Altomare’s 60thbirthday. The present note is intended to pay tribute to the man and professorFrancesco Altomare, pointing out his contribution to the mathematicalcommunity.
