Abstract:  During a recent study of ore samples from the Roşia Poieni Neogene porphyry copper deposit (Apuseni Mts., Romania), one tellurosulphide and two tellurides mineral species were identified. This is the first report on the telluriumbearing minerals occurrence in this deposit. The samples were collected at the +1045 m level, SW side of the open pit, from a 4 cm thick epithermal vein, crosscutting the porphyry copper mineralized andezitic-microdioritic body. After a study with reflected-polarized light microscope for identification of ore mineral assemblages, the polished sections were studied with a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) equipped with a back-scattered electron (BSE) detector to study very small-sized minerals. The quantitative compositional data were determined using a Cameca SX 50 electron microprobe (EMP) at the G2R Laboratory (University of Nancy, France). Besides the common base metal sulphides (pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite), one tellurosulfide, represented by goldfieldite and two telluride minerals, represented by tellurobismutite and hessite, were identified as well.

Keywords: tellurium, hessite, goldfieldite, tellurobismuthite, porphyry copper deposit, Roşia Poieni, Romania.
