Abstract:  Water is one of the environmental substances most exposed to pollution. The number of pollutants so far identified in water is larger than in the air. Among these, the main pollutants are heavy metals cations, such as Cd2+, Cr3+, Cr6+, Co2+, Cu2+, Fe3+, Mn2+, Ni2+, Pb2+ and Zn2+. They are not biodegradable and tend to accumulate in living organisms, thus causing different disorders (Al-Degs et al., 2003). Key words: wastewaters, zinc, ionic exchange, natural zeolites, volcanic tuffs, Transylvania, Romania
