  Article:   DECREASE OF HEAVY METAL BIOACCUMULATION IN PLANTS BY SOIL AMENDMENT WITH PILLARED VOLCANIC TUFF.

  Abstract:  The plants growing on polluted soils directly or indirectly related to mining activities show high contents of metals such as cadmium, lead and zinc, thus jeopardizing the health of the consumers. In case of Cd, 0.1 mg/kg of fresh cereals and vegetables mass is the maximum accepted value (International Food Standards Codex Alimentarius Commission; Vassilev, 2002). In Romania, the limit is the same (Anonymous, 2005).
