Abstract:  All natural building stones and by default all the natural stone monuments (buildings, walls, sculptures or statuaries) are affected by the direct contact with the atmosphere. Complex physical, chemical and biological processes alter the stone in some general or specific way. The decomposition of the rocks, soils and their minerals through these processes is called weathering.
