Abstract:  (This report is based on a study carried out by a research team comprising: A.Grodzicki, A.Drwięga, G.Kryza, C.August, H.Walendowski and R.Kryza, in 2005). Wrocław Cathedral, with its more than 1000 year history, is an exceptional object offering a unique possibility to study the use of natural stone through changing architectural styles. The use of stone reflects not only the material conditions and level of local economic development, strongly dependant on the natural resources, but also highlights temporal preferences and fashions, as well as trading links, and economic, political and cultural relationships between various regions and countries.

Keywords: building stones, cultural heritage, Poland.
