Abstract:  The Night of Museums, celebrated around mid-May, is currently one of the most popular cultural European initiatives related to education activities in the framework of museums. The action was launched in 2005 by the Direction of Museums of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, under the umbrella of the Council of Europe. The project runs in partnership with the International Council of Museums (ICOM)’s International Museum Day. The main objective of this „free for all” social event was to gather European museums in a dynamic, focused and voluntary joint-effort during a single day of cultural celebration. The aim was to provide the public, and especially the young ones with a creative and informal opportunity to re-discover traditional museum collections.

Key words: museum, mineralogy, education, civil society, Romania, Europe.
