Abstract:  The history of the Geological Museum of Central Siberia (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) dates back to December 1943, when the Krasnoyarsk Geological Survey was established. The intense collecting of typical and exceptional rock and mineral specimens during more than 60 years, led to a rich and outstanding heritage. At the same time as the collecting activities, a geological education started inside the “Young Geologist” movement, led by the field geologist M.L. Sherman. University teachers or museum curators such as I. S. Zakhorgevskii, V. I. Moiseev (Fig. 1), A. D. Shelkovnikov, L. V. Makhlaev, E. S. Edintsev, E. A. Kolyago, G. L. Tsykina and A. Z. Klementova gave lessons about the Earth''s interior and the geology of the region, organized geological field trips and encouraged the love for earth sciences (Nevolin et al., 1999; Sovluk and Pochekutova, 2004). During the 70’s, a number of groups for studying geology had been established among children at schools, various cultural institutions or club-houses set up, in order to initiate career-guidance directed towards geology.

Key words: geological education, earth sciences, Museum of Geology.
