Abstract: Completely unexpected, the Austrian mineralogist and speleologist Robert Seemann passed away due to a cerebral hemorrhage shortly before Christmas, on the 20th of December 2010. Robert Seemann was born in Vienna (Austria) on the 12th of July 1945. He studied physics and chemistry and finished with a PhD in mineralogy and petrography at the University of Vienna in 1974 on the genesis of pyrites from the karst of the Northern Calcareous Alps. He had already started working at the Natural History Museum in Vienna in 1971 and in 2004 he became appointed director of the Department of Mineralogy and Petrology. He passed away two weeks before his retirement. | |||||||
