  Abstract:  The paper presents the life and work of geologist and professor Valeriu Lucca (1901-1969). Professor Lucca was born in Cheia/Turda (Transylvania); he graduated from the University of Cluj and specialized in geology at Strasbourg and London. He worked as a geologist at the “Mica” Society, Brad (1933-1954) and as a professor of Mineral Deposits and Geological Prospecting at the Universities of Bucharest and Cluj (1955-1967). He had an outstanding contribution in the research of gold deposits from the Apuseni Mountains and he also demonstrated excellent teaching skills.
