  Abstract:  Mutations in the structure of the economy of Bistriţa city between 1989-2004. Having an old tradition in Bistriţa, services in particular, and subsequently, industry, mainly built between 1960-1980, underwent major structural changes after 1989. The privatization of state enterprises and the transition to a market economy led to a change in the economic profile of Bistriţa, which became from an industrial city, a service and industrial city. Some aspects accompanying this change are analyzed using some indicators: the working population, business turnover, turnover/employee, profit, etc., and the economic relationships with the periurban area are studied.
