  Abstract:  Né en 1874, dʹorigine polonaise, Ernst Cassirer fut lʹun des penseurs emblématiques du courant que lʹon baptisa ʺnéo‐kantienʺ. Très tôt venu étudier la philosophie, lʹhistoire de lʹart et la littérature allemande dans le pays de Schiller et Goethe à Berlin, Leipzig et Heidelberg, il suit en 1896 les cours dʹHermann Cohen à lʹuniversité de Marburg. Celui‐ci exercera une grande influence sur la philosophie de Cassirer, également marquée par lʹoeuvre de Kant, dont il fut un grand lecteur, et par la période historico‐intellectuelle des Lumières, qui le fascina.
