THE ROLE OF CULTURE IN THE EUROPEAN INTEGRATION. Authors: ENRIQUE BANÚS . |
||||||
Abstract: The common idea is that culture does play a role in the European integration only (or at least) when article 128 (now 151) is included into the Treaty with the Maastrich Treaty. A while ago, actions on the cultural field on the basis of intergovernmental agreements were given. But the relations between the European integration project and culture are impressively more relevant. On the one hand, a Common Market, as established in the founding treaties, is based on a culture and, at the same time, improving a culture. A political project like the European Communities, realised via an economic instrument, has inevitably cultural consequences. The panorama of these relations is schematically showed in the article and exemplified in the role the European integration has for the (cultural) awareness of the frontiers. Key words: culture, common market, frontier, values, free movement |
