Abstract:  The Character of Phaedra in D.-G. Gabily. The Matrix of the Amazons and the Movie-shooting of Post-Phaedra. Since antiquity, the content of myth offers the legendary frame which is used as a flexible material for dramatic composition. D.-G. Gabily reinvents the myth of Phaedra by adding a surprising parameter: Phaedra is the parent of three daughters who are declared to be Amazons. And Phaedra herself is linked to the female ancient warriors by an annual ritual of childbirth where a male offspring is excluded. D.-G. Gabily seems to imitate the tragedy of Seneca: both playwrights reveal through the character of Phaedra the image of Hippolyta, mother of Hippolytus. Moreover, in D.-G. Gabily''''s play Gibiers du temps, Phaedra''''s festivities bear resemblance to the “rose ceremony” of the Amazons, making thus reference to H. von Kleist''''s Penthesilea.
