  Abstract:

A study approaching the anodic dissolution of iron and aluminum based electrodes in aqueous solutions containing sulfate or chloride ions is presented in this paper. Beside the influence of the supporting electrolyte, it is experimentally established the influence of the solution pH on the anodic dissolution of the two anodic materials considered. As the anodic dissolution of the anode surface is the first step of electrocoagulation processes, the results obtained are important in order to achieve a better understanding of these processes. The anodic dissolution process depends mainly on the specific electrical charge passed. Current density at null potential, heterogeneous constant rate in mixed regime and dissolution rate are determined. The influence of mass transport over the global rate of the dissolution rate of aluminum and iron respectively is established.
