  Abstract:  

The overall kinetics of the catalytic ignition of a stoichiometric ethane/air mixture on an isothermally heated platinum wire is studied. The isothermal regime, achieved in an original experimental set-up, allows the direct measurement of the reaction rate in various operational conditions and the determination of the overall activation energy and reaction order on the basis of a previously reported kinetic model. The results are discussed and compared with other data obtained using different experimental techniques and models.
