New lower rim silyl substituted calix[8]arenes have been synthesized by reaction of the parent p-tert-butylcalix[8]arene with n-BuLi at low temperature followed by addition of trimethylchlorosilane/(3-chloropropyl)-trimethoxysilane when octakis-(trimethylsilyl)calix[8]arene (3)/octakis-(n-propyl-trimetoxisilan)calix[8]arene (4) is obtained. The new calixarene derivative 4 has been characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy.
