Article:   THE PHENOMENON OF BRAIN DEATH IN VIEW OF THE THEOLOGICAL-MEDICAL.

Authors:  ANDREEA PETREȚCHI.

Abstract:  This article is divided in two separate parts. In the first part, there is a definition of death from a medical point o view, with all the modern concepts of brain death, cortical (cerebral) death, total brain death, biological death and vegetative death; but also death from a theological perspective as a mystery of God’s love, as a passage towards eternal life. The accent falls on brain death (definitions and criteria for establishing a diagnosis) and on the organ transplant as an offering of love based on the Christian love of those who give it and its fulfillment in the love of those who receive it. In the second part the article presents a study regarding the people’s attitude towards death, the organ transplant, but it focuses mainly on the level of knowledge concerning the concept of “brain death”.
