  Article:   CHRISTIAN THOUGHT ABOUT ORGAN TRANSPLANTATION.

  Abstract:   When speaking about the organ transplant, we have to consider our Orthodox faith concerning: 1) the human person and the human body; 2) the illness and healing; 3) death and resurrection. Primarily, the body is the temple of God and it will be raised from the dead. Secondly, the illness has a redemptive value. And thirdly, death is a bridge to eternal existence and to full communion with God. Those involved in organ transplant have the moral duty to undertake their responsibility with respect for the human person in its integrity. We should not confuse biological death with cerebral death and the body should not be transformed into an object made out of interchangeable detachable parts. Organ donation must be willingly done, because “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Co 9:7). Any excess should be avoided in biomedical technology.
