  Rezumat:  Solving the Debt Problem: the HIPC Initiative. This paper presents in a critical way the most recent international solutions to the debt difficulties of low-income highly-indebted countries. We pointed out it basic elements, especially the way in which are combined and integrated already existing instruments. The stage of implementing as well as the first results are presented too. Concluding remark is that a normal evolution - as it is design from latest IMF-World Bank’s developments, Cologne G7 Summit or Jubilee 2000 – could conduct if not to a complete cancellation of debt from those countries at least to a long term debt sustainability
